Artist's Comments

An illustration of the two halves of the human soul and the workings of our conscience. This piece actually has a symbolic qualities to it, as opposed to my usual craziness just for the sake of craziness. Any thoughts on what these things could mean? Interpret it anyway you'd like.

ooh, interpretting! I like interpretting. But first, This is an awesome piece. Congratulations. I can't help but notice you don't draw penises. I also love that big gaping hole on the center character.

Well at its basics, it's very easy to see what it stands for. Good and evil. The fact that everyone is naked, and yet clearly does not have a medieval setting (Looking at that assault Rifle and the moneycase) seems to be attributed to how it's human nature. It is a more primitive notion to have ones good and evil. Setting wise, it appears to be The Garden of Eden on the left, and Hell on the right. One may not think much of the direction at which the Stairs and serpent go, but goodness is associated to ascendency, the way the stairs rise, and evil is degrading and declining. It could also say that the stairs, being of architecture, can represent construction, where as the serpent, with its many bloody hooks shows the primitive nature of destruction. Now for the figure in the middle. The Masks he hold are obviously resemblandt of good and evil, but why masks? Perhaps the masks could show how people will often put a mask on for other people. Some people pretend to be good to avoid trouble. Others pretend to be bad to maybe get more respect or just feel cooler. The way his legs intertwine shows the subjectivity of Good and Evil. The two are parts of a single individual, and no one is complete without the other. Subjectively speaking, this work can even be contradictory. The lady with the Autorifle May not be so evil. She could be ready to fight for her people against an oppressive regime. She could even be a member of the SWAT team. Greedy moneycase man may need that money to support his own family whom he loves and cares for. They may be dieing and in need of medication that could only be obtained through this money he is getting for maybe killing this one little boy. So what's worse really? Killing an onnocent little boy to save three other people. Now the raped lady. Could just be her fetish. i happen to know someone who likes getting choked so to each their own. I honestly have trouble justifying rape though, seeing as it is almost purely for pleasure. Now look at the mother figure. That baby could be the next hitler. She and her husband could also end up being child beaters or molesters. The two picking flowers in the back may be attempting to pluck out a poisonous plant in which to poison someone they don't like. Given their earthly ways and peaceful expression, it might even have a religious conotation. They could be attempting to poison someone they deem evil and unworthy. The persons crime could simply be not believing. and that instruent girl. Where did she get it? She could have stolen it. Now for the bloody hole in the center guys chest. I don't know what tpo say about it except for being a method used to create a more shocking piece of artwork. Generally I'm good at throwing meanings in pklaces where they don't belong but I'm at a loss for that.

Either that, or this is actually an anti-comunist propaganda poster. If you didn't believe in God, you were a communist (Since communism doesn't allow religion, as it may interfere with the greater good it represents) and if you were a communist, you ate babies and carried guns *Looks around at American gunstores*

Actually I just came up with something for the bloody wound. This is about the human soul correct? It shows how the soul is not limited and cannot be withheld within a human shell. It's an exit wound from both good and evil.

"the fact that everyone is naked, and yet clearly does not have a medieval setting (Looking at that assault Rifle and the moneycase) seems to be attributed to how it's human nature."
Yes, the nudity is to show the "real" aspects of a human, uncovered by the daily facades so commonly used to mask our true selves.

"Setting wise, it appears to be The Garden of Eden on the left, and Hell on the right. One may not think much of the direction at which the Stairs and serpent go, but goodness is associated to ascendency, the way the stairs rise, and evil is degrading and declining. It could also say that the stairs, being of architecture, can represent construction, where as the serpent, with its many bloody hooks shows the primitive nature of destruction."
Good job, you're getting it.

"Now for the figure in the middle. Yes sir! Behind our good guy and bad guy masks, we are neither black nor white, but grey (actually inspired by satanist philosophy). The twisting of the legs also depicts how such extreames tend to twist together to make one individual, as you have said. Basically, the Middle Figure represents the every-man. He is serching his own soul and trying to make sence of his morals and urges and instincts, his good and evil.

"Now for the bloody hole in the center guys chest. I don't know what to say about it except for being a method used to create a more shocking piece of artwork."
When I was thinking this picture up in my mind I wanted it to be very bloody. However, I also did not want the blood to throw the picture off balence, so I ended up sadly ommitting any blood. But I really wanted it! So I thought of a way to incorperate blood into the middle figure and have it also add meaning; notice the hole is over his heart. Searching ones soul and delving into the self can be a painful process, so I wanted to represent that pain.

"Now look at the mother figure. That baby could be the next hitler."
Who's fault is that?

"[The mother figure] and her husband could also end up being child beaters or molesters."
But here, they represent love in both the forms of parent-child love and man-woman love. They are both together for the baby and eachother. I see nothing evil about that. Not here.

"The two picking flowers in the back may be attempting to pluck out a poisonous plant in which to poison someone they don't like."
They represtent the appreciation of nature and life. Hence the man smiling with the butterfly.

"Now the raped lady. Could just be her fetish. i happen to know someone who likes getting choked so to each their own. I honestly have trouble justifying rape though, seeing as it is almost purely for pleasure."
I feel that te ribs on the girl imply that she has been chained there for a while, she was victumized because she was a weaker and easier target. The guy looks cold and pissed off even as the girl cries. And crying, being uncomfortably chained by the wrists, screaming/gasping, threatened with a knife, starving and being choked all at once doesn't sound concentual. Maybe one or two things at a time could be pleasurable for her, but all at once just seems unlikely.

Thanks for your time! Good thinking, I appreciate it.

Well all the traditional representations in those people are a given. any one can see that. I wanted to see how it could also be turned around. The baby can be the next hitler, and the fault can very easily be the parents. Just because a couple appears to be loving to a child doesn;t mean they necessarily need to be that way all the time. A friend of mine has a father in just such a way. He wears the smiling white mask whenever others are around, making him seem like such a great father. A little time hearing him without his knowing and one can easily see how greedy a man he is. Puts his wallet before his son. Damn shame.

And it still looks like American Cold War Propaganda. Good 'ol US of A on the left, and the terrible Commies on the right

(also, something I noted. Look at the hand of the boy with the butterfly, his left hand. Something seems odd about it. he has two right hands)

Honestly, the charactors are more of representations of concepts then actual multi-dimensional charactors. The only charator who is not a simple representation of good or bad is the Middle Figure. He's the only compleate individual. The others are not "Mother" or "father" or "Rapist" or "Killer", but they are sprits of the pure "essence of motherly love," "essence of fatherly love," "essence of rape," "essence of violence"

And yes, Butterfly Boy is a freak. Good thing he's not on the other side where all the discrimination and 'handicap beat-down' lives. That lucky bastard!
lol

You guys are my new Heros. You... Amaze me. This picture has so much meaning, so much thing representing life, death, good, evil. I think this is the most amazing thing i have encountered in my life. I truly am astounded by this. I won't try to interpret it because i would most likely make a food out of myself, but I would just like to let you know, that i think you are very talented people, and this deserves way more recognition, and so do you. Very Very Very beautiful. Well done.
